Every November, the sleepy little township of Pushkar in Rajasthan, India comes alive with a riot of colors and a frenzied burst of activity. The occasion: PUSHKAR FAIR. Very few, if at all any, fairs in the world can match the liveliness of Pushkar. Most people associate the Pushkar Fair with the world's largest camel fair.

Fun and Frolic in Pushkar
As the tempo of business goes down, the men folk turn to merriment, for the day of the camel sports is at hand. Camel races are the first event. Usually a lumbering beast of burden, the camel all decorated in finery, imagines itself to be an ostrich, and rushes through the race like one.

About Pushkar Lake
Pushkar lake, Rajasthan: It is surrounded by hills on three sides and desert on the other side. The cave of Saint "Agasthya" was located on the snake mountain here. There is one belief that "Kalidasa", the Indian counterpart of Shakespeare, had this place as his locale for his Sanskrit drama, "Shakuntalam". According to a legend, the lake was formed when Lord Brahma wanted to perform a "yagna" here.

Brahma Temple, Pushkar
Brahma temple is the temple situated at Pushkar in Rajasthan in India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Brahama and is said to be the only existing temple dedicated to Lord Brahama in India. This temple, built with marble, is decorated with silver coins, and there is a silver turtle on the floor of the temple. Legend also has it that the ancient lake Sarovar had appeared miraculously, when a lotus fell from the hands of Lord Brahma and dropped into the this valley. The image of Brahmaji in Pushkar is in a seated Palthi position. It is said that Lord Brahma's lotus flower fell in three separate places in the Pushkar area.
